(letter from Katherine Carlson to Gregory So.Dak daughter Agnes Barthle) June 24, 1941 Dear Daughter Agnes and famely. Hoping this find you all feeling your best with lovely weather included. The small grain sure looks very much like that it will be extra good this year if we get a rain soon and a storm do not damage it. How is the three little folks. Sweet Margie? good James? and Darling Joan? The dear little bunch. I supose Joan eats at the table now with you all. little Mickie eat at the table in his High Chair, egg, grain cereal___ or Baby food. he is just the best Baby in the world. or very near the best . he getting so heavy and strong too. he was 6 months old saturday. we was out west to Roy and Lanese and little Margret Christinsons sunday Lanese Birthday. we had a very nice time and a lovely dinner. 6 fried springs and so much of every thing good we all fetched some thing. I had Baked Beans and chocklet cake. Mrs C had two pumpkin pies, Diveled eggs, Potatoe salad, ice cream. June had Ice cream and chicken Salad. Joice and famely had a large dish of spaggita one of those neighbors a sorbor Boy that married Helins Bcunorbaw I wander if you rememed them. Thay have one little Girl a year old in march with Joices three little folks all looked so cute, and the other three Mickie was the youngest and the most made men, and the 19 last thursday we was at Paul Robertoons to Mrs R Birthday in the evening. we got back Home at 11: Pm. had a bery nice time and all the cream and cake we could eat. now this sunday nite 29th the church members of Carlock is puting on a big dance in Paxton. I hope that will make a lot of money. that will be James and Paulin Birthday I will send over a cuple doz of Donuts. I not going for I do not like to be out so late. we got about 200 little chicks the 7th we must have 25 I think and a few more do not looks very good. Well How is all august Folks Grandpaw and all. I supose you miss Lillion since she moved away. When I get my old age assistance I will get her something nice I had my application made out almost a month ago and the man from the Social security office was here yesterday making a investigation visit and he also told me that I would have to rite all my children asking them if they can help me of not and if not tell the reason you can not help. they got your address. I thought they was going to do the writing. I depend on you? to help me through with this big problem of mine. I've been having a terrible time with Mrs Polley in Burke. I have rote the Governor also the supertendent at Pierre of the social security office there complaning that I am not treated fair in no way Polly sayed I would be bard for a year before I could have my application made out. I wrote in a protest on that. thay never sayed a word about it. Mr. Polley was just bluffing me out in every way thay could think of. Thay may ask you for my letter to you so I will write it on a seperat sheet so if they should ask for it to find out what I wrote you it will be out. I get to write F.P.yet and give them the low down on it and pleas rite to The Social sucurity Office in Burke right away and be _________________and do not put in any if's and ands for thay will catch You? _____ ____ ___ __ can make it short and as nice as you can for me. O yes I asked Mr King that was here yesterday if I Would be alowed to leve the state and for how longe, he sayed I could leve for 9 months with out loosing my assistance Im glad. Now pleas? do not spoil everything for me.
