John was born May 6th, 1961, in Dade City to Alfred and Mary Barthle, and grew up in the small town of Saint Joe.

John was a lifelong area resident and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church;
he loved horticulture and was an active member of their Garden Club.
He graduated from Pasco High School in 1979 where he played first chair clarinet in their Band of Pirates.
John graduated from Pasco Hernando College and attended the University of South Florida.
He was a passionate baseball fan and loved to watch the Atlanta Braves and the Tampa Bay Rays.
He volunteered with the Dixie Youth League in San Antonio, coaching hundreds of children over a span of three decades; the last year of which, he and team helper Cindy Ellis bonded through their passion for helping children, and their shared love of the game.
They went on to have many adventures together, camping and kayaking at the Chassahowitzka River, and visiting family in the Tennessee Mountains every year.

John worked for the Benedictine Sisters of Florida, Holy Name Monastery, for nearly fifty years.
He started while in middle school, and eventually served as their Director of Maintenance, securing, repairing, and maintaining everything for the Sisters.
Ever the practical problem solver,
he was always happy to help his family, and members of the community.

John was lucky to find love not just once, but twice. He was predeceased by his first wife Janie Watson in 2010.
Six years later, he met his second wife, Cindy, who, along with her son Brad, bravely nursed him through his fight with brain cancer.

John was also predeceased by his father, Alfred “Fritz” Barthle, and his daughter, Jenna.
Besides his loving wife Cindy, John is survived by his mother, Mary Bush; his son Justin Barthle and his wife Erica, along with their daughter, Margot; and Jenna’s son, Charlie.
