Imelda Barthle Higgins, 72, of Dade City, FL, passed away on April 8, 2022, in Tampa. Melda was born in Brooksville, Florida to August and Agnes Barthle on June 17, 1949. She attended Pasco High School and the University of South Florida in Tampa. She and her husband, Jack, were married for 48 years. She worked in the legal profession for more than 50 years working in both private practice and with the City of Tampa. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church for the past 45 years.

Melda is preceded in death by her parents, her brother James “Jim” Barthle, and her sister Joan Barthle Petters.

Melda is survived by her beloved husband, Jack Higgins, her daughter, Rebecca True (Travis True), her son, Rob Higgins (Casey Higgins) and 4 beautiful grandchildren: Laney and Landon Higgins and Leah and Lauren True. She is also survived by her sisters: Margie Denney, Connie Carr, Lucinda Rawlings (Ben), Monica Schrader (Herman) and brothers: Dan Barthle (Barbara) and Ralph Barthle (Paula).

A Rosary Vigil service will be held at 6:30PM on April 18, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 10AM on April 19, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampa with visitation during the prior hour. Burial will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Dade City, Florida. Arrangements are by Blount and Curry Funeral Home in Carrollwood.

Memorial gifts in her honor may be given to Orlando Health – Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital.

HIGGINS, Katherine C., passed away July 22, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Born in Niles, California, she moved to Quakertown, Pennsylvania, as a teenager, and on to Tampa after graduating from high school.

She worked for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Stenographer. In 1948, she married Fred T. Higgins (Air Traffic Controller). Katherine and Fred lived in Wellswood for many years, raising their children among wonderful friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred T. Higgins, in 1976, and is survived by sons, Jack Higgins (Melda) and Patrick Higgins (Truly); daughter, Patti Higgins Schmidt (Perry); grandchildren, Rebecca Higgins True (Travis), Rob Higgins (Casey), Ryan Higgins (Kelly), Lani Higgins Gregory (Scott), Kelli Schmidt Heath (John) and four great-grandchildren, Laney, Landon, Leah and Lauren.

Visitation with family will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral Mass immediately following at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 15520 North Boulevard, Tampa, Florida 33613.

Burial will be at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
