Frank Brands, a retired professor of electrical engineering, died August 30 at the age of 78. A native of Akron, Ohio, Frank graduated from high school in Akron in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was honorably discharged in 1946. He attended Akron University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1949.

He married his wife, Ruth, in 1956, and they later came to Washington State University, where he received a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1960. He worked in industry before becoming a professor, where he taught for 37 years. Upon his retirement, the family established the Frank Brands Distinguished Professorship in Analog Electronics.
