The first son of Magdalen and Nicholas Paleveda

Andrew Joseph "Joe" Paleveda
Passed away peacefully at his home on December 6th 2014. He was 93 years old.
Devoted to his wife and children, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha, and their nine children; Cecilia Algood (Jim), Barbara Edgerton (Bruce), Alice Carlton (Leffie), Michael, Paul (Chris), John (Vanessa), Timothy (Debbie), Teresa Oscher (Steven), and Ellen Moore (Terrence); 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
A graduate of Jesuit High School, he was a life long resident of Tampa.
He enlisted in The United States Marine Corps 6 months after Pearl Harbor and served his country proudly in the South Pacific during World War II. He was drafted by the New York Yankees, playing in the Yankee minor league system but gave up the game of baseball upon the death of his father to join the family business, The Paleveda Printing Company. Joe was also a member of the I.A.S.T.E Union, Local 321 for over 64 years.
He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and served as an usher. His love of baseball continued throughout his life. He was a player for the Tampa Smokers baseball team and was the co-founder of The Brandon Senior softball Association, where he continued to play softball well into his eighties. In July 2011, at the age of 90, he threw out the first pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays throw back jersey day game, in tribute to the Tampa Smokers. Joe was a musician, an artist and spoke 3 languages. He was a quick witted humorist who was always comfortable in front of a crowd entertaining. As the patriarch of the family, "Pappous" leaves behind three generations of his family who will always love and cherish him.
A viewing will be held at A Life Tribute Funeral Home 4040 Henderson Blvd. on Thursday, December 11th 6-8pm. A funeral mass, to celebrate his life, will be held on Friday December 12th 10:30am at Christ The King Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
